Description
A very warm welcome to Ueno Zoo, Japan’s cherished and historic zoological garden! Opened in 1882, this is not just the oldest zoo in the nation, but a true landmark of Tokyo, a place of shared memories, nestled in the green heart of Ueno Park.
As you step through the gates, the city’s energy melts away. This is a sprawling sanctuary, thoughtfully divided into the vibrant “East Garden,” home to pandas, tigers, and the “West Garden,” which opens onto the breathtaking Shinobazu Pond.
This is a place of wonderful contrasts, where a 17th-century pagoda stands serenely, watching over the elephants. We are so delighted you are here to share in this world, a bridge between our urban lives and the wild beauty of nature. Enjoy your visit.
